Our adoption program connects rescued horses and donkeys with loving forever homes. Each animal at Dark Sky Equine Sanctuary has a unique story and a heart ready for a new chapter.

Takoda

Aged 12 • Rescued Thoroughbred

Takoda is a beautiful and smart Standardbred.  He has a bone spur injury on his left front foot, so he can not be ridden, but is a great companion horse.  He loves brushing, stands for ferrier and loads well.

Our Adoption Journey

Application

Start your healing journey by filling out our simple online adoption form. This helps us understand your experience and the environment you'll provide for our horses and donkeys.

Assessment

We review your application and speak with your references. For a successful match, we also conduct a facility check to ensure a safe and nurturing home is ready for the rescue.

03

Matchmaking

Visit the sanctuary to spend time with our permanent residents and adoptable animals. We help facilitate a physical and emotional connection between you and your potential companion.

04

Forever Home

Once approved, we finalize the adoption agreement. You'll bring your new horse or donkey home, beginning a lifelong bond of mutual rehabilitation and companionship.
